Week 308: Stones

A week of intense scrubbing, grout paint, loud board games, tasting menus, drives up north, bed frames, new guests, multiple walks, a word-count milestone, and a lot of world-building.

    We have the week booked off as holiday which mostly means intense scrubbing. This week we focused on the grout in the showers, it involved some heavy cleaning and then painting the grout white again. It looks a lot better and is quite satisfying tbh.

  • I played online board games in Matlock for the first time, new setup is great, I did badly at the game though. It’s quite nice being able to play without headphones because I’m so far away from the other house occupants.

  • On Wednesday I took Charlotte to Stones for a tasting menu as a late birthday present. It was really great and included a wine pairing with each course 👍 the menu was a little more Rowan-coded than Charlotte-coded because they changed it a week before we came, so well done for me.

  • On Thursday we drove up to Huddersfield to collect a bed frame from Leigh-Ann & Andy, met their new kid, and ate a katsu which was excellent. The bed barely fit in the car and I had to drive back without easy access to the handbrake. It was fine. Now our guests can have more than a mattress on the floor!

  • Speaking of guests, Luke arrived later in the day and got to be the first to try out the new bed. The next day we got a bus to a nearby farm shop and cafe then walked the 5 miles back. It was delightful, lots of varied landscapes, and some excellent mushroom and stilton toast.

  • Gallal arrived later. We showed him Matlock and then we all went on a longer walk near Elton which included Robin Hood’s Stride. We ate our sandwiches amongst the rocks.

  • This post tips my “Weeknote Words” stat to over 100,000. That’s a hundred thousand words of me rambling and it should take an average reader a solid 11 hours to get through them. That’s more words than The Hobbit and I fully believe my collective works will have as much of a cultural impact.

  • I’ve done absolutely masses of D&D world-building this week. I wrote a first edition of my world’s newspaper, fleshed out the economy, and finished a lot of admin tasks like adding wiki entries for 29 different forests, 7 seas, 3 lakes, 36 rivers, and 20 bays and gulfs. Maybe I’m going overboard? Who knows. What’s important is I’m having a wonderful time. Here’s World Map v5:
