Week 300: Goddenwick Farm
Another milestone weeknote! I’ve managed to publish a weeknote every week for 300 weeks, getting close to 6 years or ~16% of my life. Sometimes I hate it, other times I love it.
I was recently talking to a friend about why I write. I’m the primary audience; what it’s done for me is removed the fog of “what did I do?” when faced with years that seem to pass more quickly. It’s lovely to be able to answer that question without relying on my poor memory and I love having different experiences, mundane or otherwise, recorded here for my future self.
The past week was busy. Work’s been quite a lot. My team are merging into another team officially now. It’s not what I would have chosen but a team of two isn’t particularly resilient and we’ve been told there’s zero chance of extra funding. We’ll make it work as best we can but I’m a bit sad that we’re no longer going to have a dedicated SRE team.
We played D&D again this week after a little break, and it was a blast. The session was split across lots of different parts of the city, with different factions and NPCs, and there were plenty of shenanigans. We ended with the party getting themselves locked in a bakery with a pretty powerful enemy, we’ll see what happens next time!
Over the weekend we celebrated G’s 40th birthday in a beautiful farmhouse in Sussex. There were 15 of us staying as well as a couple of day visitors. It was kind of perfect; low stress, everyone was fun and in high spirits, and we balanced activities with relaxation time.
