A week of flyer deliveries, flyer distributions, new members, playing with lego, architecture diagrams, curtains, Bakewell puddings, boxes, and calm lads.

  • A stack of flyers for Unite stacked on my desk, placed beside a box of 1,000

This week we (Unite reps at the FT) got our first batch of flyers printed! They look great IMO. Something that became apparent recently is that a lot of people don’t know that the union exists, this is the first step towards remedying that. We dropped a small stack of flyers in each kitchen area and have had three new people reach out. Great! We also had a productive meeting with HR this week following a change in my department’s business partner, working out where our goals align.

  • The Principal Engineers in my part of the FT ran a couple of architecture days this week and they were pretty good! Day one was largely mapping out our architecture with Lego and string. Semi silly but it did help us build a picture of all the interconnections between systems. Day two was taking this knowledge and bringing it into LikeC4 which I’m now a big fan of.

  • We’re in Matlock again for the weekend, this time with Luke and Alison. It’s been fun! We did a little bit of paint sampling, hung some curtains, explored the lofts, and changed lightbulbs. Nothing too strenuous. We sampled a few pubs, went to a food festival, and drove to nearby Bakewell for a pudding. We’re off for a walk today which will be lovely.

  • The cats were instantly relaxed once we arrived, no hiding behind the sofa this time and they’ve started to find their favourite spots to have a nap. They were also a lot more calm during the car journey which is promising.

  • I bought a couple of nice boxes from an antique shop in town. I’ve been trying to improve our storage situation in Whitechapel and I’m filling our office shelves with nice boxes of things instead of plastic containers. I’ll share a pic once it’s done.
