Week 289: Bergerac
I have been drinking wine and relaxing. Bergerac is beautiful, the wine’s great (and cheap), and I’ve been eating a great number of baked goods.
For the first day it was me, Charlotte, and Alison. We wandered around town a lot, did a self-guided walking tour, and drank a good amount of wine. €12 a bottle on a beautiful sun terrace overlooking the river 👀 Luce arrived a day after us and we showed her around.
There’s a bakery around the corner from our apartment, dangerous to have fresh baguettes plus heaps of french butter so close to home.
We took a train to a nearby small town and hired kayaks, it was so peaceful and pretty. We paddled 7km down the river, saw some big birds, waved at picnic-havers, and mostly got carried along by the current.
Today we hired bicycles and rode round a nearby park and lake, had a picnic ourselves, and then cycled half an hour to a nearby chateau vineyard. It was tough going and we got off and walked our bikes for the final hill; I still felt we deserved the wine tasting and the extra wine and the ice cream. The downhill on the way back was a lot of fun.
I feel relaxed and rested, slightly sad to be leaving tomorrow but a guy’s gotta get paid I suppose.
