A week of snotty sickness, eating chillis again, terrible gut days, hygiene ratings, grandparents, incredible quiches, comedy shows, and too many plans.

  • I spent a lot of this week being sick. Sore throat, snot, general brain fog; it wasn’t much fun. I’m just about OK now but tired.

  • I forgot to update you last week on the status of my elimination diet. I’m still going a little slowly with the reintroductions and it turns out that chilli, one of the foods I thought was high risk, is OK. I’ve also tried a few different nuts, all fine, and I’m intending on introducing soya next.

This is especially for Alice: I did have one terrible gut day and it was the day after I was first able to eat Wings of East (our local chicken shop) again. It was pretty rough, not gonna lie: a four poo day and I wasn’t even drinking the night before. I’m starting to wonder whether my gut issues are not related to a single ingredient but more processed fast food 😬 they have a hygiene rating of 5 though!

  • Over the weekend we visited Charlotte’s grandparents, lovely, and Charlotte baked the best quiche I’ve ever eaten. Charlotte’s a good cook generally but honestly this quiche was incredible. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

  • A view of the stage at The Royal Albert Hall, with Ed Gamble and James Acaster surrounded by large cut-out crockery and cutlery

On Sunday we went to see Off Menu Live at the Royal Albert Hall and it was hilarious, strong recommend although that’s not very useful for you as we bought the tickets a full year ago. The surprise guest was Nicola Coughlan who’s excellent.

  • We have too many plans already, weekends are booked up until May and it’s stressing me out tbh. The transition from quiet Jan/Feb into this is always a shock to my system. I’ll have fun, sure, but I’ll need a lot of gentle bed days to make up for it.
